Free Activities in Kissimmee

-Check out the Old Town Shopping, Dining, and Entertainment Complex. On Friday nights, the streets are lined with some of the finest custom and exotic cars you’ve ever seen and the Saturday Nite Cruise features a great array of classic cars. The weekend also includes live entertainment and a lot of family fun.

-Stop by the historic downtowns of Kissimmee and check out the historic Courthouse, the oldest courthouse that’s still in use in the State of Florida. Then travel to the downtown area to see the Kissimmee Sculpture Experience, where each year different artists submit their work and a dozen pieces are selected to line the streets. Next, head to Lakefront Park and be sure to check out the Monument of States along the way.

-Head to St. Cloud, also named “The Friendly Soldier City" for the thousands of Civil War veterans who relocated here in the early 1900s. Spend the day strolling the streets, shopping, dining, and “people watching” in antique stores, shops, waterfront parks, and restaurants.

-If you love nature, be sure to check out Osceola County which has the largest population of nesting Bald Eagles in the continental U.S. It’s also one of the country's few re-introduction sites for the endangered Whooping Crane. The best place to spot these birds is at Lake Lizzie Nature Preserve, the Osceola County Environmental Center, and in the Wildlife Management Areas of Bull Creek, Prairie Lakes, Three Lakes, and Triple N Ranch.
-Like to fish? Be sure to spend some time fishing the lakes of Kissimmee, which are famous for their views and abundant amount of bass. Lake Tohopekaliga, located in downtown Kissimmee, is known to fisherman around the world and is a great place for boating, birding, and picnicking along the water's edge. Also, be sure to head over to East Lake Toho in St. Cloud for a full day of free fun. Spend the day on the beach, a playground, and fishing from several lakefront fishing spots including a fishing pier.

The NFL recently compiled a list of the 100 Greatest Players that have played in the NFL and Mike Ditka ranked in at number 59, while fans have ranked him at number 55! Mike Ditka played tight end during his 12 season career in the NFL, where he played in 158 games. Ditka was feared as both a receiver and blocker and was the first tight end to be inducted into the Hall of Fame! Ditka was most known for his time with the Chicago Bears, where he ended his career with 427 catches for 5,812 yards and 43 touch downs.

After 5 games into the Chicago Bears NFL season, they are currently ranked #1 in the NFC North. They have won four of the five games they have played this year, with their only loss being to the New York Giants. The Bears next game will be against the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.

‘Dinner with Ditka’
Mike Ditka Resorts held its annual “Dinner with Ditka” event at the Ditka Restaurant in Oakbrook, on September 8th, 2010. Contest winners enjoyed a relaxing and entertaining evening of dinner, drinks, and conversation with Hall of Famer and former NFL Coach of the 1985 Super Bowl Champions, the Chicago Bears, Coach Mike Ditka.

Guests were treated to a wonderful four course meal that consisted of Shrimp Cocktail Shooters, Lamb Chops, and Mini Filet Sliders followed by the Soup of the Day and a choice of salad. The main course included a choice of: Surf & Turf, Coach's Famous Pork Chops, Chicken Parmesan, or Cashew-Crusted Tilapia. Dinner was followed by a selection of delicious desserts, including Banana Cream Pie, Chocolate Mousse and Key Lime Pie. Guests also enjoyed a full service bar which featured top-shelf cocktails, as well as Ditka’s namesake wine.

Guests had a great time laughing and joking with Coach Ditka and his wife Diana throughout the night as they shared stories about the past and talked about this upcoming NFL season. Guests also enjoyed receiving autographs and taking pictures with ‘Da Coach’!

We Attended Pow Wow
Sales Manager Sina Kilbourne recently made Mike Ditka Resorts big debut at the 2010 Orlando International Pow Wow held at the Orange County Convention Center May 15-19th, 2010.

The International Pow Wow is the travel industry’s premier international marketplace and the largest generator of Visit USA travel. This year’s event included more than 1,000 U.S. travel organizations from every region of the USA with as well as close to 1,500 International and Domestic buyers from more than 70 countries!

Mike Ditka Resorts booth featured a “Spin to Win” wheel, offering qualified travel buyers the chance to win top prizes such as an official Mike Ditka Jersey, a two night stay at the resort or an autographed bottle of Mike Ditka brand wine.

This was huge event where Sina was given the opportunity to meet with International travel buyers one on one.
